William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was a poet and playwright, though his date of birth, spelling of his name, and countenance are not known. There is ample evidence of his literary reputation, though no direct descendents remain, and the only samples of his writing are three signatures on his will. His First Folio does not provide dates, so the order of the plays of the man considered the world's greatest poet are not known.
